The Nursing Manager – IMC provides clinical and administrative leadership for the Intermediate Care Unit (also known as a Progressive Care Unit or Step-Down Unit). This role ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while leading and developing nursing staff, managing day-to-day operations, and supporting compliance with clinical and regulatory standards.
Oversee the daily operations of the IMC, ensuring optimal staffing, workflow, and patient care delivery
Supervise, mentor, and evaluate registered nurses and support staff
Collaborate with physicians, case managers, and allied health professionals to coordinate complex patient care
Monitor quality indicators, patient safety metrics, and implement improvement initiatives
Ensure adherence to policies, procedures, and accreditation requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS)
Lead performance evaluations, staff development, and continuing education efforts
Manage unit budgets, resource utilization, and equipment maintenance
Act as a liaison between nursing leadership and frontline staff to foster engagement and accountability
Active RN license in [State]
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree (MSN, MHA) preferred
BLS and ACLS certification required
3–5+ years of acute care experience, preferably in IMC/PCU/step-down
1–2+ years of nursing leadership or charge nurse experience
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
