Job Description

Job Summary:

The Postpartum RN provides compassionate, patient-centered care to mothers and newborns following delivery. This role involves monitoring the physical and emotional well-being of postpartum patients, supporting breastfeeding and newborn care, and educating families during the transition from hospital to home.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and monitor the recovery of postpartum patients, including vital signs, uterine status, and pain levels.

  • Provide newborn care including assessment, feeding support, and parent education.

  • Support and educate mothers on breastfeeding, self-care, newborn safety, and postpartum recovery.

  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including pain management.

  • Respond to emergencies and collaborate with obstetricians, pediatricians, and lactation consultants.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).

  • Foster a supportive and calming environment for families adjusting to newborn care.

  • Promote safe discharge planning and follow-up care coordination.


Qualifications:

  • Licensure: Active RN license in [State]

  • Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred)

  • Certifications: BLS and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required

  • Experience: 1–2 years of experience in postpartum, labor & delivery, or women’s health preferred

  • Strong clinical assessment, teaching, and interpersonal skills

  • Passion for maternal-child nursing and family-centered care
