Job title: Registered Nurse - Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia. They monitor patients' vital signs, assess their condition, and provide appropriate interventions to ensure a safe and smooth recovery process. The PACU nurse collaborates with the surgical team and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Monitor patients' vital signs and level of consciousness post anesthesia.
2. Assess patients' pain levels and provide appropriate pain management interventions.
3. Evaluate patients' surgical site for any signs of complications.
4. Communicate effectively with the surgical team and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
5. Educate patients and their families on postoperative care instructions.
6. Document all nursing interventions and patient responses accurately.
7. Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a safe patient environment.
8. Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care outcomes.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Valid RN license in the state of practice.
2. Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
3. BLS and ACLS certification.
4. Prior experience in PACU or critical care nursing highly preferred.
5. Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
7. Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
