Job Title: Phlebotomist
Job Summary:
A phlebotomist is responsible for drawing blood from patients for various medical tests and procedures. They are also responsible for labeling and transporting blood specimens to the laboratory for analysis. Phlebotomists must ensure the safety and comfort of patients during the blood collection process.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Draw blood from patients using venipuncture techniques.
2. Verify patient information and identity before beginning the blood collection process.
3. Label blood specimens accurately and transport them to the laboratory in a timely manner.
4. Communicate effectively with patients to explain the blood collection process and address any concerns they may have.
5. Maintain cleanliness and sterility in the work area to prevent infections and ensure the safety of patients and staff.
6. Follow all relevant safety protocols and guidelines to minimize the risk of accidents or injuries.
7. Document all blood collections accurately and maintain thorough records of patient information.
8. Assist in training and supervising new phlebotomy staff as needed.
9. Stay updated on the latest techniques and best practices in phlebotomy to provide the highest quality of care to patients.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Completion of a phlebotomy training program or certification from an accredited institution.
3. Current CPR certification.
4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
6. Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
7. Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures.
8. Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
9. Strong organizational and time management skills.
