Job Title: Med-surg Mother/Baby, Labor and Delivery Nurse
Job Summary:
As a Med-surg Mother/Baby, Labor and Delivery Nurse, you will be responsible for providing care to both mother and baby during the labor and delivery process. You will oversee the medical needs of both patients, monitoring vital signs, administering medication, and providing emotional support throughout the birthing experience.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Provide comprehensive nursing care to laboring mothers and newborn babies.
2. Monitor and assess the progress of labor, fetal heart rates, and maternal vital signs.
3. Assist with labor and delivery procedures, including vaginal deliveries, c-sections, and complications.
4. Educate new mothers on postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care.
5. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as doctors, midwives, and lactation consultants.
6. Document patient assessments, care plans, and progress notes in medical records.
7. Ensure a safe and comfortable environment for mothers and babies during labor and delivery.
8. Administer medications, IV fluids, and pain management techniques as needed.
9. Provide emotional support and guidance to mothers and families throughout the birthing process.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
2. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
3. Certification in maternal newborn nursing or labor and delivery nursing (RNC-MNN or RNC-LRN) preferred.
4. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in labor and delivery or maternity nursing.
5. BLS and ACLS certifications.
6. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
7. Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
8. Excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills.
