Job Title: Pre-Op, Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse (PACU)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Pre-Op, Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse (PACU) to join our healthcare team. The PACU Nurse will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and effective care of patients before and after undergoing anesthesia. They will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating patients' conditions, managing pain, and providing emotional support to both patients and their families.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide thorough patient assessments prior to surgery to determine their readiness for anesthesia administration
- Develop and implement individualized care plans based on the patient's pre-operative condition and expected post-operative needs
- Monitor patients closely before, during, and after anesthesia administration, including vital signs, oxygen saturation, and consciousness levels
- Administer medications and interventions to manage pain and maintain patient stability during recovery
- Perform comprehensive patient education regarding post-operative care, including wound care, medication management, and potential complications
- Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure safe patient handoff during pre and post-operative care
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including anesthesia and medication administration, patient responses, and any complications
Qualifications and Skills:
- Valid nursing license and current BLS certification
- Prior experience working in a Pre-Op and/or PACU setting is preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of anesthesia techniques, patient assessment, and post-operative care
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide emotional support to patients and their families
- Detail-oriented and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to remain calm and composed during emergency situations
- Understanding of infection control protocols and ability to maintain a sterile environment
- Working knowledge of electronic health records (EHR) systems
