Job Title: Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse (PACU), Operating Room
Job Summary:
The Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nurse (PACU) in the Operating Room is responsible for providing care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical procedures. The nurse monitors patients' vital signs, administers medications, assesses pain levels, and assists in the management of post-operative complications. The PACU nurse works closely with the surgical team to ensure the safe and effective recovery of patients.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assess and monitor patients post-operatively, including vital signs, pain levels, and overall condition
- Administer medications as ordered by the surgeon or anesthesiologist
- Collaborate with the surgical team to provide continuity of care for patients
- Manage post-operative complications and intervene as necessary
- Educate patients and families on post-operative care and instructions
- Document all patient care activities accurately and in a timely manner
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment in the PACU
- Adhere to all hospital policies and procedures related to patient care
Qualifications and Skills:
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
- BLS and ACLS certification
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a surgical or critical care setting
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy in documentation
