The Operating Room (OR) Nurse is responsible for delivering safe, high-quality nursing care to surgical patients throughout the perioperative phase. The OR Nurse works closely with the surgical team to prepare the operating room, assist during surgery, and ensure a sterile, efficient, and patient-centered environment.
Prepare patients for surgery and perform preoperative assessments.
Maintain a sterile field and ensure strict adherence to infection control protocols.
Act as a scrub or circulating nurse depending on assignment.
Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technologists during procedures.
Document intraoperative care, medications, and interventions accurately.
Monitor patient condition before, during, and after surgery.
Ensure proper handling and count of instruments, sponges, and sharps.
Participate in post-operative handoffs and patient safety protocols.
Maintain knowledge of surgical equipment, instruments, and procedures.
Support education, safety checks, and quality improvement initiatives in the OR.
Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in [State]
Education: ADN or BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred)
Certifications:
BLS required
ACLS and CNOR preferred
Experience:
1–2 years of experience in the OR or perioperative nursing preferred
New grads with strong clinical rotations in OR may be considered
Strong organizational, critical thinking, and team collaboration skills
