The Interim Acute Care Services Manager (Director of Med Surg) provides operational and clinical leadership for Medical-Surgical units during a transition or leadership gap. This temporary role ensures continuity of patient care, regulatory compliance, staff supervision, and performance improvement while supporting strategic initiatives in a fast-paced acute care setting.
Provide day-to-day leadership and oversight of Med-Surg and related acute care units.
Supervise nursing staff, ensuring quality, safety, and evidence-based practice standards are upheld.
Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as HCAHPS scores, infection rates, and patient throughput.
Oversee staffing, scheduling, productivity, and resource utilization.
Partner with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care and discharge planning.
Ensure compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, and state/federal healthcare regulations.
Lead quality improvement initiatives and support staff coaching, education, and mentorship.
Assess current operations and recommend improvements for long-term stability.
Provide executive leadership updates and status reports throughout the interim term.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field preferred
Licensure: Active RN license in [State]
Certifications: BLS required; ACLS and NE-BC or NEA-BC preferred
Experience:
5–7+ years of progressive nursing leadership
Prior experience as a Director or Manager in an acute Med-Surg environment
Proven ability to lead through transitions and stabilize operations
Excellent communication, organizational, and team leadership skills
