The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) performs complex laboratory tests to help diagnose, treat, and prevent diseases. Working in a hospital, clinic, or diagnostic lab setting, the CLS ensures the accuracy and reliability of lab results, supporting physicians and healthcare teams in patient care decisions.
Perform and analyze a wide range of clinical laboratory tests (hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, etc.)
Ensure accuracy, precision, and timeliness of test results
Calibrate, operate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment
Follow quality control procedures and document all lab activities
Validate and interpret test data, identifying critical results
Communicate findings to healthcare providers in accordance with lab protocols
Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and other regulatory standards
Participate in continuing education and laboratory improvement initiatives
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field
Valid CLS license (as required by state or country)
Certification by ASCP, AMT, or equivalent preferred
1–2+ years of experience in a clinical lab environment
Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, instruments, and safety standards
Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and communication skills
