Job Description

🧾 Job Summary:

We are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join our Clinical Laboratory team. The MLS will be responsible for performing high-complexity testing across various laboratory disciplines to assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The ideal candidate has a strong background in clinical lab sciences and a commitment to quality, accuracy, and patient safety.


🔍 Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform, analyze, and interpret routine and complex clinical lab tests in areas such as hematology, chemistry, immunohematology, microbiology, and urinalysis

  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and analyzers

  • Accurately document and report test results to physicians and care teams in a timely manner

  • Ensure compliance with laboratory policies, safety protocols, and regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP, COLA, etc.)

  • Conduct quality control checks and participate in quality assurance/improvement activities

  • Troubleshoot technical and instrument issues, escalating as needed

  • Process specimens following proper identification and labeling protocols

  • Collaborate with pathologists, technologists, and other healthcare staff for coordinated patient care

  • Maintain inventory and order lab supplies as needed

  • Participate in continuing education and staff training to remain current with lab technologies and practices


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or related field

  • Certification as MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), or equivalent required

  • State licensure as required (if applicable)

  • 1–3 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred

  • Strong understanding of lab safety, QA/QC practices, and HIPAA compliance

  • Proficient in laboratory information systems (LIS) and electronic medical records (EMR)


💡 Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with automated analyzers (e.g., Beckman Coulter, Abbott, Roche)

  • Familiarity with manual testing techniques and microscopy

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills

  • Ability to work independently and in a team in a fast-paced environment
