Central Sterilization Technician
(Also known as Sterile Processing Technician / Central Service Technician)
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Central Sterilization Technician to join our surgical services team. In this essential role, you will ensure the proper decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment used across hospital departments.
Collect, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments, trays, and equipment using autoclaves and other sterilization equipment.
Assemble instrument trays according to hospital standards and surgical preferences.
Perform quality checks on all sterile items and identify any defects or contamination.
Maintain accurate inventory of sterile supplies and ensure timely delivery to operating rooms and clinical units.
Operate and maintain sterilization equipment (e.g., autoclaves, washers, ultrasonic cleaners).
Follow strict protocols for infection prevention, sterilization, and regulatory compliance.
Collaborate with surgical teams and nursing staff to ensure availability of properly sterilized tools.
Uphold hospital safety standards and participate in ongoing training and process improvement.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Certification as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CBSPD) preferred or required (depending on facility/state).
1+ year experience in sterile processing, surgical services, or hospital supply chain (preferred).
Knowledge of medical terminology, instrument identification, and sterilization protocols.
Attention to detail, organization, and ability to follow strict procedures.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for long periods.
