Job Summary

The Polysomnographer / Sleep Technologist is responsible for conducting diagnostic and therapeutic sleep studies to assist in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of sleep disorders. This role requires expertise in sleep technology, patient care, and the operation of specialized monitoring equipment in accordance with established clinical protocols.


🩺 Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and educate patients for overnight, daytime, and home sleep studies (PSG, CPAP, BiPAP, MSLT, MWT).

  • Set up, calibrate, and monitor polysomnography equipment, including EEG, EOG, EMG, ECG, airflow, respiratory effort, and oxygen saturation.

  • Monitor patients throughout the study, ensuring safety, comfort, and accurate data collection.

  • Recognize and respond to significant physiological events (apneas, arrhythmias, desaturations).

  • Perform titration studies for CPAP, BiPAP, and advanced therapies as ordered.

  • Score and analyze sleep data according to AASM (American Academy of Sleep Medicine) guidelines.

  • Document patient history, study observations, interventions, and outcomes accurately in EMR.

  • Maintain equipment, supplies, and ensure compliance with infection control standards.

  • Collaborate with sleep physicians and multidisciplinary teams for patient care planning.

  • Provide patient education on sleep hygiene, CPAP use, and equipment maintenance.

  • Completion of an accredited Polysomnography program or equivalent clinical training.

  • RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist) credential strongly preferred.

  • State licensure (if required by state regulations).

  • Current BLS/CPR certification.

  • Experience with sleep lab equipment, troubleshooting, and AASM scoring rules.
