Job Description

🩸 Position Summary:

The Operating Room (OR) Nurse provides safe, high-quality, and compassionate care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This role includes both Circulating Nurse and Scrub Nurse responsibilities, ensuring effective teamwork, sterile technique, and patient safety throughout the perioperative process.

🔹 Key Responsibilities:

Circulating Nurse Duties:

Prepare the operating room with appropriate equipment, instruments, and supplies.
Verify patient identity, surgical consent, and procedure details.
Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping.
Maintain sterility and monitor compliance with infection control protocols.
Document intraoperative events, instrument counts, and patient data accurately.
Coordinate communication between the surgical team and other departments.
Ensure safe specimen handling and accurate labeling.
Provide post-operative handover to the recovery team.

Scrub Nurse Duties:

Set up and maintain sterile fields and surgical instruments.
Anticipate the surgeon’s needs and provide instruments, sutures, and materials promptly.
Ensure accurate surgical counts (sponges, needles, instruments).
Maintain aseptic technique and monitor for breaks in sterility.
Assist with handling specimens and surgical equipment during procedures.
Support surgeons during emergencies and complex cases.

💡 Qualifications & Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Nursing (BSN/ADN).
Licensure: Active Registered Nurse (RN) License.
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Preferred.
- CNOR Certification – Preferred.
Experience: Minimum 1–2 years in an Operating Room setting (Circulating/Scrub experience preferred).
Skills:
- In-depth understanding of surgical instruments and procedures.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain calm and efficient in high-pressure situations.

Fast-paced, sterile surgical environment.
May require on-call, weekend, or holiday shifts.
Exposure to biological and chemical materials.
