Director of Emergency Services & Short Stay Observation Unit (ED & SOU)
The Director of Emergency Services & Short Stay Observation Unit (ED & SOU) provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Emergency Department and Observation Unit. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, and budgetary goals.
You will collaborate with medical staff, nursing leadership, and other departments to optimize patient flow, improve outcomes, and enhance team performance. The Director is responsible for staffing, budgeting, performance improvement initiatives, and implementing evidence-based practices in emergency and observation care.
Oversee all clinical and administrative functions of the ED and SOU.
Develop and implement operational strategies to ensure efficient patient care delivery.
Manage departmental budgets, resources, and staffing models.
Maintain compliance with accreditation and safety standards.
Lead quality improvement and patient satisfaction initiatives.
Support and mentor nursing leadership and multidisciplinary teams.
Analyze patient flow and implement strategies to reduce wait times and length of stay.
Collaborate with senior hospital leadership on long-term strategic planning.
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s preferred (MSN, MHA, or MBA).
Current RN license.
Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive nursing leadership experience in Emergency Services.
Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
Excellent crisis management and decision-making abilities.
Knowledge of emergency care protocols and observation unit best practices.
Budget management and data-driven leadership.
Collaborative and team-oriented mindset.
