The NICU Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to premature and critically ill newborns in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. This role requires advanced clinical skills, critical thinking, and strong compassion for infants and their families.
Provide direct nursing care to premature and critically ill infants
Monitor and operate NICU equipment such as ventilators, incubators, and feeding pumps
Assess vital signs, lab results, and overall medical condition of newborns
Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary teams
Educate and support parents regarding the infant’s condition and care plan
Respond quickly to emergencies and provide necessary critical interventions
Follow infection control, safety standards, and NICU protocols
Maintain accurate documentation and charting in EMR
Administer medications and observe response to treatments
Active RN License (State-specific)
BSN preferred (not mandatory in all facilities)
Minimum 1 year of NICU experience preferred
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required
BLS/ACLS certifications required
Strong neonatal assessment and critical care skills
Excellent communication and family support abilities
