The Dispensing Registered Nurse is responsible for safely preparing, verifying, and dispensing medications to patients under approved clinical protocols. This role ensures medication accuracy, patient safety, proper documentation, and adherence to regulatory standards. The RN works closely with physicians and pharmacists to ensure patients receive the correct medications and education regarding usage.
Prepare, verify, and dispense prescribed medications following facility protocols
Review physician orders for accuracy, allergies, and medication interactions
Educate patients on medication dosage, side effects, and proper administration
Maintain accurate medication records, logs, and dispensing documentation
Coordinate with pharmacists and providers to clarify medication orders
Ensure safe storage, handling, and disposal of medications
Perform medication reconciliation during patient intake or discharge
Monitor patient response to medications and report adverse reactions
Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations
Assist in inventory management and medication stock rotation
Valid, active RN License (State-specific)
Previous experience in a dispensing, clinical, or outpatient setting preferred
Strong communication and patient education skills
Knowledge of medication safety, dosage calculations, and pharmacology
BLS certification required
Ability to work in a fast-paced clinical environment
