Job Title: Laboratory Phlebotomist
Job Summary:
The Laboratory Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood samples from patients and preparing them for medical testing. They must ensure accurate patient identification, proper specimen labeling, and safe handling of blood samples.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood samples from patients
- Verify patient information and accurately label specimens
- Package and transport specimens to the laboratory for testing
- Follow infection control protocols to maintain a sterile and safe work environment
- Maintain stock of phlebotomy supplies and equipment
- Assist in maintaining accurate records of specimens and test results
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Certificate or diploma in phlebotomy from an accredited program
- Current certification as a phlebotomist (e.g. CPT, ASCP)
- Knowledge of venipuncture techniques and blood collection protocols
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures accurately
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
