Job Title: Technician - Sterile Processing (SPT)
Job Summary:
The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) is responsible for sterilizing medical equipment, instruments, and supplies in healthcare facilities. They play a crucial role in preventing infections and ensuring patient safety by following strict protocols and procedures for decontamination, sterilization, and storage.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Collect, clean, decontaminate, and sterilize equipment, instruments, and supplies.
2. Inspect and assemble instrumentation trays and sets according to specifications.
3. Operate sterilization equipment such as autoclaves and ultrasonic cleaners.
4. Maintain accurate records of sterilization processes and equipment maintenance.
5. Assist in inventory management and restocking supplies.
6. Follow infection control guidelines and standards to ensure the safety of patients and healthcare workers.
7. Collaborate with surgical and clinical staff to meet their equipment needs.
8. Participate in ongoing training and education to stay current on best practices and regulations.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. High school diploma or equivalent
2. Certification as a Sterile Processing Technician (CSPDT) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) preferred
3. Knowledge of sterilization techniques, equipment, and principles
4. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
5. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
6. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
7. Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift heavy equipment
8. Understanding of infection prevention and control practices
