Job Title: Physician - Neonatology
Job Summary:
The Physician - Neonatology is responsible for providing medical care to newborn infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), nursery, and labor and delivery units. They will diagnose and treat newborns with various medical conditions and provide guidance to families on care and postnatal support.
Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Attend high-risk deliveries and provide immediate medical care to newborns.
2. Monitor and manage the care of premature infants in the NICU.
3. Conduct physical exams, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and develop treatment plans.
4. Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including nurses, respiratory therapists, and social workers.
5. Educate parents on newborn care, breastfeeding, and developmental milestones.
6. Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and case conferences.
7. Coordinate care with pediatric subspecialists for complex cases.
8. Document patient care in electronic medical records.
9. Stay current on advancements in neonatal medicine through continuing education and professional development.
10. Maintain board certification and licensure in neonatology.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Medical degree from an accredited school of medicine.
2. Residency training in pediatrics and fellowship training in neonatology.
3. Board certification in neonatal-perinatal medicine.
4. Valid state medical license and DEA registration.
5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
6. Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-stress environment.
7. Attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
8. Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
9. Commitment to patient-centered care and evidence-based practice.
10. Experience with neonatal procedures, such as intubation and umbilical catheterization.
11. Knowledge of neonatal pharmacology and nutrition.
12. Ability to work effectively in a team-based care model.
13. Compassion and empathy for infants and their families.
14. Excellent decision-making skills under pressure.
