The Hospitalist Physician is responsible for delivering comprehensive inpatient care to hospitalized adult patients. This role includes admitting patients, managing medical conditions throughout hospitalization, coordinating with specialists, and ensuring smooth discharge planning. The hospitalist plays a central role in enhancing care quality, patient safety, and clinical outcomes in the inpatient setting.
Provide full-spectrum internal medicine care for hospitalized patients.
Perform admissions, daily rounding, consults, and discharges.
Collaborate with specialists, nursing staff, and case management for coordinated care.
Respond to acute changes in patient condition, including rapid response and code situations.
Ensure accurate documentation and coding in the EMR for compliance and billing.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives, committee meetings, and peer reviews.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of inpatient protocols, evidence-based practices, and hospital policies.
Foster patient and family communication, education, and satisfaction throughout the stay.
Education: MD or DO from an accredited medical school
Licensure: Unrestricted medical license in [State]; DEA license required
Board Certification: Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine
Experience: 1–3+ years of hospitalist or inpatient experience preferred (new grads welcome at some institutions)
Strong clinical judgment, teamwork, and communication skills
Comfortable with high-acuity patients and fast-paced inpatient environments
Familiarity with hospital EMR systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner)
